There are two types of grants
made by the Foundation:
ATHLETIC GRANTS,
which are usually for a specific purpose or competition. Athletic
grants may be applied for at any time. The grants committee reviews
applications and makes awards quarterly according to the following
schedule:
February 15 Application Deadline Awards
Notification by March 30
May 15 Application Deadline Awards Notification by June
30
August 15 Application Deadline Awards Notification by September
30
November 15 Application Deadline Awards Notification by
December 30
SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS are
awarded only once a year. Applications are accepted from January
1st to April 1st. If grantees continue in school with satisfactory
grades, they are given preference in their reapplication for succeeding
years, but they must reapply for the grant annually.
SCHOLARSHIP AND ATHLETIC GRANT
REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, an applicant should:
- Be a resident of Hawai`i
and an American citizen
- Have participated in competitive
sports
- Demonstrate financial need
- Submit a completed application
- Submit a personal letter
of intention
- Submit a list of competitive
sports and awards
- Submit a letter from an athletic
coach or trainer
- Submit a federal tax return
(parents if you are claimed as a dependent) or financial statement
in the case of a team or organization
- Submit a recent photo, preferable
an action shot in your sport
In addition, scholarship
applicants must:
- Plan to attend an accredited
college as a full-time student
- Submit your most recent transcript
of grades (3.3 minimum GPA)
- Submit two letters of reference
from the school you are attending at the time of your application
In addition, Athletic grant
applicants (individuals or teams) should:
- Provide your personal history
in the event
- Describe your training program
- Describe up to three years
of previous competition
- Provide documented results
of competition with records and times
- Provide a grant budget and
describe other forms of fundraising you are pursuing
