February 24, 2006: In preparation for our fundraising dinner and auction in October, The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is requesting donations. If you, or your company, have items to donate please contact Tiare Finney or Roberta Cullen at info@dukefoundation.org. The auction will be held at Hula Grill in October. More detailed information on dates, time, pricing, and reserving tables will be posted later.
January 20, 2006: PAL (the Police Activities League) is holding Sheriff Duke Kahanamoku Day April 15, 2006 at the University of Hawaii. More than 500 children will be treated to a day of activities led by UH Vollyball Coach and ODKF Board Member Dave Shoji and UH Baseball Coach Mike Trapasso and UH Basketball coach Riley Wallace. All will enjoy a picnic lunch courtesy of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation and other sponsors.
January 18, 2006: Planning for Duke's Ho'olaule'a 2006 is in motion. The week-long celebration surrounds Duke's birthday which was August 24. The Ho'olaule'a includes surfing, swimming, surf water polo, a lifeguard challenge, Sunset On The Beach, and other events in Waikiki. See last year's ho'olaule'a schedule for an idea of what's to come.
January 17, 2006: There is a new Scholarship Grant Application and Athletic Grant Application on our Downloads page. The new deadline for Scholarship Grants is April 1st.
November 9, 2005: Upon a motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the nomination of five Board members for the term 2005-2008: Tiare Finney, Judy Pietsch, Malia Schreck, Perry Sorenson and hold over Director Malia Kamisugi who will start her own term (she finished Mary Philpotts McGrath’s term). Leaving the board are Cary Moore, Keith Steiner, Sharon Brown, and Wilmer Morris.
August 29, 2005: A big
MAHALO to Aaron Peirsol for competing in this year's Ho'olaule'a.
Aaron conducted two swimming clinics, surfed in the Hawaiian Airlines
Duke's Legends Surf Contest and swam in the Duke's Ocean Mile Swim.
At all his appearances he spent hours signing autographs and taking
pictures with fans. He showed the so much Aloha, Duke would be proud.

Proceeds from T-shirt sales go directly to the foundation's grants
and scholarships. The T-shirts, designed by Happy Shirts, are $20
and come with the Ho'olaule'a logo on the front.

17, 2005: Genius Industries and Smart-Screw have joined in
sponsoring this year's ho'olaule'a.
What is a Smart-Screw, you ask? Well, surfing and surfboards have
changed since the early days of Duke's era when finless wooden boards
were used. Now most modern longboards come with three removable
fins. A Smart-Screw allows surfers to adjust their larger center
fins with the same small hex wrench tool commonly used to adjust
the side fins. Most modern boardshorts come with a hex tool inside

sponsored by Longboard Magazine, Surfline Hawaii, BoardSling, and
SurfTech. Winners receive a Converse prize package and a chance
to win a Board Sling Board Bag or a Surf Tech Surfboard. Pick up

July 19, 2005: Aaron
Peirsol will conduct a swim clinic on Wednesday, August 24, 2005
from 3:30-6:00 p.m. for the first 50 USA registered swimmers ages
11-15 who send in their applications. The $10 clinic fee will go
directly to the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation. Download

18, 2005: Christal Simms was one of nine athletic grant recipients.
She along with 30 of Hawaii's finest scholar athletes received their
grant checks at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Mahalo
Luncheon. KHON2's Jai Cunningham emceed the
luncheon which also honored the Foundation's generous donors. A

13, 2005: KGMB airs "Duke Kahanamoku: Hawaii's Soul"
a documentary about Duke Kahanamoku at 7 p.m. on the 115th anniversary
of Duke's birthday, August 24th, on KGMB9 television. The documentary
is set to play again at Sunset on the Beach on August 27th &
28th along with "The Ride", an award winning film based

13, 2005: This Week Magazine's August 15th issue will have
the complete Ho'olaule'a Schedule. The August 22nd issue will feature
Duke Kahanamoku Ho'olaule'a art on the cover. This Week Magazine
is Hawaii's largest visitor publication, distributing 40,000 issues
per week.
June 30, 2005: Hawaiian
Airlines sponsors the Duke's Legends Surf Classic on August 26th
& 27th to raise funds for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation.

for Ho'olaule'a?
In what is becoming an end-of-summer tradition
to enjoy Waikiki Beach, the Fourth Annual Dukes Hoolaulea
will present a series of exciting activities to honor the legendary
Duke Kahanamoku, August 24-28, 2005. The Hoolaulea (Celebration)
begins on the 115th anniversary of Dukes birthday, August
24, with a traditional Hawaiian sunrise greeting, followed by the
start of The Converse Hawaiian Open LongBoard Magazine surf
meet off Waikiki The five-day Waikiki celebration (schedule below)
will also feature a lei draping of Dukes statue, surf polo
tournament, waterman challenge, historical displays, and special
Duke-themed Brunch on the Beach on August 28. A highlight
of the Hoolaulea will be the participation of Aaron
Peirsol, the three-time gold medalist from the 2004 Athens Olympics
and world record holder in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke.
Peirsol will lead a special keiki swimming clinic on August 25 and
compete in the Dukes Ocean Mile Swim on August 27. (READ

April 7, 2005: ODKF
Auction Raises $42,000 for College Scholarships
What was originally envisioned as a one-time
fundraiser may now become an annual event following the success
of the ODKF Scholarship Fundraising Auction on April 7, 2005. Themed
as Aloha Boat Days, it was a memorable evening filled with music,
great food and good times at Hula Grill Waikiki. And the best news
of all: we grossed $42,000 for ODKF's college scholarship program.
A huge mahalo to Chris Colgate and his staff
at Hula Grill Waikiki for allowing us to borrow their restaurant
for the evening. The food was delicious and the service fantastic.
Maunalua played beautiful Hawaiian music and the ambiance captured
the Aloha Boat Days spirit of old Waikiki.
Some lucky attendees went home with some very
special treasures from the live and silent auctions. Fray Heath
bought a beautiful, classic Kamaka ukulele. A big mahalo to organizers
Wink Arnott and his wife Carol, Tim Guard, Jim Fulton, and the many

April 2, 2005: 4th
Annual Duke Water Sports & Fitness Day
Hundreds of children enjoyed an action packed
day at Koolina Resort at the fourth annual Duke Water Sports
and Fitness Day. ODKF Board Member and UH Wahine Volleyball
Coach Dave Shoji lead the volleyball clinic. Outrigger Canoe Club
members hosted canoe paddling. Hawaiian Island Creations sponsored
the surfing clinic. Ralph Goto and the City and County Water Safety
Officers ran a water safety clinic that included a look into the
back of an ambulance with Emergency Medical Technicians offering
their first hand knowledge. The boys and girls competed in tug of
war and a beach flag races, too. Overall it was a great day, complete
with free Jamba Juice a barbecue lunch by Duke's Restaurant. Other
fantastic sponsors were HMSA, Global Online Junior Lifeguard, Lanikai
Canoe Club and Ka Mamalahoe Canoe Club.
