These two are winners of five Molokai Hoe Canoe Racing World Championships and five Kaiwi Channel one-man relay World Championships as a "brothers duo.” Recognized as global ambassadors to the Polynesian sport of canoe paddling. For much of the last 30 years, Lanikai Canoe Club has been a formidable force in the sport of outrigger canoe racing, in large part due to the talent and leadership of John and Jim Foti. Born and raised in Lanikai, the Foti brothers carried on the family tradition of paddling for their hometown canoe club with numerous championship titles and their abounding aloha spirit. The Foti brothers have shared the culture and sport of canoe paddling all over the world, from Hawaii, New York, Tahiti, and Italy. Identified as icons of canoe racing, it is also their dedication to the non-profit Kanaka Ikaika, which perpetuates the spirit of paddling, and facilitates a deeper understanding of Hawaiian culture and values as they relate to the environment and its protection, and ensure the success of the one-man canoe and surf ski racing circuit in Hawaii, for generations to come.
