We celebrate the memory of Randy Carlson, who loved Hawaiʻi, the ocean, and traveling to exotic places, but most of all, teaching young people. An artist by nature, poet in spirit, and voyager to the core, “Mr. C” inspired his middle school students to explore and embrace the wonders of the world surrounding them. His first love was surfing, and he also competed in long-distance ocean swims. He was also an accomplished canoe paddler whose grandfather competed with Duke Kahanamoku in the 1932 Olympics.
Upon Randy's untimely death at age 41, his family established a fund with the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation in 2009 to perpetuate his legacy of motivating young people to achieve, love life, and forever learn. Mahalo to the Carlson ʻohana for your years of meaningful gifts to support scholarships for new generations of ocean sports athletes like Randy.
